Woman x Women, a group show curated by Sugar 4 Brains, features a line-up of all women artists who examine the female body, sexuality, and its representation. The exhibition highlights nearly 30 international artists, each who contribute a varying style and mode of depiction. Station 16 Gallery is thrilled to host Woman x Women, which opens on July 30th, 2015.
The exhibition aims to draw attention to the historic underrepresentation of female artists in the public setting, and by doing so, progress towards a more balanced presence of men and women in the arts. The concept for the exhibition first came about when Sugar4Brains was invited to participate at SPECTRUM Street Art Festival in New Zealand this past year, noticing that only one of the headlining artists was a woman. The disproportionate number of artists between genders inspired Sugar4Brains to organize a show that would solely feature and celebrate female artists. The line-up developed to include a wide range of local and international talent, such as Edith Lebeau, Hannah Faith Yata, GILF!, Handiedan, Sandra Chevrier, Alex Garant, Miss Me, Heidi Taillefer, Marie-Eve Proteau, PONY, and Vexta. Futhermore,The online reaction to Woman x Women was phenomenal, increasing the anticipation for the show.
