123KLAN

123KLAN is a graffiti crew founded by Scien and Mrs Klor in 1992. Tireless, effervescent, and often an ironic, creative force, Scien and Klor have been creating art for two decades in the hip hop galaxy and well beyond.

Influenced by the various 90’s graffiti art expressed in Europe and New York, 123KLAN crafted an hybrid style that gained them swift recognition. Their first works were enriched by huge, sharped-angled letters in acid colours and characters with futuristic manga features pose alongside experimental type.

123KLAN are the precursors of this style that mixes graffiti art and graphic design, it gives rise to a new synthesis which their motto says:

“123KLAN: when street knowledge meets technology, and graffiti art melts with with graphic design.”

By shifting the boundaries of their two favourite disciplines,123KLAN have advanced the graffiti aesthetics and have infused new ideas into current graphic design.

Far from confining themselves to urban walls with aerosol, 123Klan incorporates their art into limitless mediums – record sleeves, posters, stickers, toy designs, skateboards, canvases, t-shirts, and more.

123Klan interprets the ever-changing pop culture that surrounds them sprinkling hip hop references, sarcasm and self-deprecating humour into their art giving them a unique and ironic style. As contemporary Pop artists, Scien and Klor are following in the steps of Arman, Villegle and Lichtenstein. Their lettering and graphic style is reminiscent of the aesthetics of pop artists, but also loans from Japanese cartoons, mascots and mass culture.

In 2007, after working for the leading brands of streetwear, Scien and Klor created their own brand, BANDIT1$M. Inspired from their artistic style, BANDIT1$M extends into consumer products and goods. The development of BANDIT1$M enabled the duo to obtain financial freedom, giving free rein to their artistic creativity.
